Museum of Garden History

While the garden borders are blooming why not take a wander around this website!While visiting you can view seasonal gardening tips, look at the development of the garden restorations and find out about the 19th century garden designer Gertrude Jekyll as well as following links to a wealth of other high quality garden sites.The site offers a virtual tour of the museum which is housed in the restored church of St Mary-at-Lambeth. Its churchyard contains a recreation of a historic knot garden and the graves of many famous people, including, John Smith of Pocahontas fame and several members of the Tradescant family - the Elizabethan plant hunters who provide the connection and inspiration for the Museum.You can read about these and see rotating displays of collection items such as photographs of 19th century gardeners, seed packs and historic postcards.Links include the BBC's Groundforce site, The Royal Horticultural Society's plantfinder, A herbal, Organic Gardening and the Plants by Postcode database which will help you to identify plants growing in a particular area.
