The series provides fascinating insights into the hidden stories behind objects at the museum’s new Dinosaur Gallery, which is due to open on September 3 2011.
The nine films feature the gallery’s star objects, such as the Rutland Dinosaur, Charnia, which is one of the world’s oldest fossils, and local discoveries such as the the Barrow Kipper.
Paleontological experts talk viewers through the objects each day leading up to the new gallery’s opening, beginning with former museum curator John Martin, who outlines the background to the discovery, naming and display of the Rutland Dinosaur, including its trip to the Blue Peter studios.
An iPad app has also been developed for the new gallery, which contains each film and added interpretation content related to the specimens within it.
- The films can be viewed on the museum’s website at www.leicester.gov.uk/dinosaurs or on their YouTube channel www.youtube.com/leicestermuseums.
