NASA astronaut and US Navy Pilot Ken Ham will be visiting The National Children's Museum, Eureka!, this Friday (July 10 2009) to launch their summer programme of activities, Blast Off!

Ken will be joined by his wife Michelle, who has trained astronauts from Russia, Japan, Germany and the USA and worked as a NASA flight controller, technical writer and operations planner.

A group of lucky schoolchildren will get an out-of-this-world experience when they meet Ken and Michelle to talk about their NASA experiences, what it's like in space and how to become an astronaut.

To celebrate the International Year of Astronomy, Eureka! will be holding a programme of family activities called Blast Off! which will include Robots Explore the Universe. This temporary exhibit will allow children to step into the shoes of real space scientists between July 18 and August 31 2009.

Ken's first space flight was as a pilot of STS-124 to the International Space Station in June 2008. The STS mission was completed in 218 orbits, travelling 5,735.643 miles in 13 days, 18 hours, 13 minutes and seven seconds. He has also been named commander of a new mission, STS-132, currently scheduled to begin in March 2010.
