National Space Centre to Mark 40th anniversary of first Apollo Moon landings

By Culture24 Staff | 06 July 2009

The National Space Centre will be marking the 40th anniversary of the very first Apollo moon landings when Buzz and Neil took that one small step which really was a giant leap for mankind.

Project Apollo: The Lunar Landings will launch on July 18-19 2009 and the centre hopes to ensure that every visitor has an experience that is completely out of this world.

The new exhibition will take place at the top of the National Space Centre’s iconic 42m Rocket Tower. As part of the exhibition visitors will have the opportunity to land the lunar module in a new simulator, be transported back in time with the sights and sounds of the 60s, have your picture taken on the surface of the moon and deliver your own words to Neil Armstrong's famous "one small step" speech.

Visitors will also have the chance to experience what it would have been like to watch the first moon landing in a recreated 1969 living room and can get close to a genuine piece of moon rock bought back by the Apollo astronauts.

The Brickish Association will also be contributing to the exhibition with the UK's largest exhibition of Lego spacecraft and there will be the oppurtunity for younger visitors to have a go at building their own.

July 20 marks the 40th anniversary and the National Space Centre will be hosting a special day of activities and visitors will even have the chance to broadcast their thoughts to the whole world and beyond.

There will be a whole range of activities taking place to accompany the exhibition and will run throughout the summer holiday. For more information go to the Project Apollo website or follow the details below.
