North Carr is the only remaining Scottish lightship. She protected shipping off Fife Ness until 1975 when she was briefly berthed as a tourist attraction in Anstruther Harbour. Now serving as headquarters and depot ship of the Maritime Volunteer Service, she is currently undergoing restoration in Victoria Dock, Dundee. It is anticipated that the works will cost £55,000 in total, and that a further refit will be required in 2009, when the hull below the waterline will be fully restored.
