The Museum of Childhood is a fun day out for the whole family. Young people can learn about the children of the past and see a fantastic range of toys and games, while adults enjoy a trip down memory lane.

Young people and adults will enjoy finding out about growing up through the ages, from toys and games to health and school days. Hands-on activities, including a puppet theatre and dressing up area, together with our fantastic museum shop, help to make your visit a memorable one.

There are toys and games of all kinds from many parts of the world, ranging from dolls and teddy bears to train sets and tricycles. Listen to the children chanting multiplication tables in the 1930s schoolroom. Watch the street games of Edinburgh children of the 1950s, and find out how children have been brought up, dressed and educated in decades gone by.

Fringe Festival Children's Poster Competition

The Museum of Childhood is hosting the exhibition of the Fringe Schools Poster Competition 2015.

The competition has been an annual event for the Fringe Festival since 1980 and in that period has received over 100,000 entries.

Entries for the competition are being accepted til 1700 on 06 March 2015.

Working with ‘26’ writers group and charity ‘ It’s Good to Give’, a selection of objects have been chosen which represent children’s Christmas presents. They are accompanied by a response from writers and / or children.
