Set on the waterfront within a restored 19th century dock the Shetland Museum and Archives tells Shetland's story. As well as housing the Museum and Archive collections there is a cafe restaurant, auditorium, learning and research rooms, temporary exhibition space and shop. Other facilities include historic boat building sheds and a three storey boat hall with suspended boats.

Da Gadderie. The story of taatit rugs reflects the very heart of Sheltand culture of the past 200 years. This exhibition of rarely seen examples investigates the origins, influences, techniques and traditions.

Digging the Vikings! on Shetland

Meet a Viking and an archaeologist - handle replica objects, mint your own Viking coin and talk to Thorfinn Olafsson about life on Shetland over a thousand years ago. Then jump forward in time to learn about the science behind the stories from an archaeologist. Help to 'excavate' a Viking burial and search through Viking poo (fake!) to find evidence of their diet.
