Trapeze artists, Withered Hand, robotic limbs and a disco: Museums at Night in Edinburgh

It's hard to imagine a more spectacular setting for a festival event then Edinburgh's National Museum Scotland

Bathed in electric blue light, its high-vaulted ceiling was the centrepiece. But the labyrinthine venue accommodated activities galore, performers and BBC Arts Centre Will Gompertz, the host of tonight's BBC Two programme.

"Finally I can tick off my bucket list watching a trapeze artist perform above Will Gompertz's head while Withered Hand play No Cigarettes," remarked one bemused punter at this stand-out Museums at Night event, where 1,700 people danced to old records played on gramophones, twisted without shouting on the silent disco floor and tried out a robotic hand while sinking cocktails mixed around the night's theme of Retro Future.

It was all rounded off by an airborne acrobatic artist topping off a rousing set by the Scottish singer-songwriter. A whoosh of BBC types rushed towards Glasgow to edit their footage in time for 7pm on Saturday night. Do not adjust your sets.
