Ten top artists have agreed to appear for a series of events during Culture24's Museums at Night 2014 festival; venues head here now to win one of them or read on to find out more
Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry, nude interventionist Spencer Tunick and legendary fashion photographer Rankin are part of an exciting line-up of ten artists in the 2014 edition of the Museums at Night grab-an-artist competition, Connect10.
The programme invites museums, galleries and heritage sites to bid for an artist to stage an event at their venue durng the Museums at Night Weekend (May 15-17 2014). The venues with the best ideas are shortlisted and a public vote decides who goes where.
As well as Perry, Tunick and Rankin, this year a stellar line-up of artists waiting to be won by a venue for a Museums at Night event includes Lemon Jelly's Fred Deakin, who during the past decade has been carving a reputation for sound and art installations, and Jessica Voorsanger, who has recently created a dance performance based on West Side Story and The Rocky Horror Picture Show in her role as Artist-in-Residence at The Hayward Gallery.
Kelvin Smith, of Mr Smith's Letterpress, brings a pop-up approach to letterpress printing and the applied arts, and Alex Hartley recently grabbed the headlines for his innovative nowhereisland project for the Cultural Olympiad.
Amy Sharrocks' most high-profile public artwork, SWIM, saw 50 people swim across London via 15 lakes, lidos and pools. Matt Pyke, who has exhibited across the world, wants audiences to grab a microphone courtesy of his Universal Everything studio, while Janette Parris - an Art on the Underground and Tate favourite - is promising "outrageous entertainment".
But where will they go and what will they be doing for the Museums at Night weekend?
Each of the artists will shortlist up to four of the best ideas. The shortlisted venues will be announced on Friday December 13. It will then be up to the public to decide.
The public vote, hosted by Culture24, begins on January 14 2014.
