Museums at Night 2010: Night at the Museum, The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent, Friday May 14 2010

Since the discovery of The Staffordshire Hoard, the largest Anglo-Saxon haul ever found in Britain, life hasn't been quite the same for The Potteries Museum.

Thousands of treasure fans poured through the Stoke centre's doors to grab a glimpse of the precious artefacts when they went on display there in February, and the Museum still holds a captivating selection from the Hoard following the successful £3.3 million campaign to save it for the nation.

The Museum has had a busy time since receiving part of the Hoard in February

The workload may have increased and the insurance premiums may have gone through the roof, but it hasn't deterred planners from allowing their Museums at Night visitors to see some of the gems.

Having been handed their own torch, kids will take a trail through the Museum, discovering highlights from the Hoard and a range of historical characters re-enacted by actors and volunteers, telling the story of Beowulf and Norse legends.

A special screening of CBBC's Relic: Guardians of the Museum will inform the adventure, and snacks and drinks will keep the cast of excited children, nervous display attendants and costumed mythological Gods fed and watered along the way.

Admission £7.50 (free for accompanying adults). Call 01782 232323 to book.
