A record 24 organisations will be taking part in Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Heritage Open Week with events to keep all the family entertained this half term.

The events, talks, walks and activities around this year’s theme of ‘Great Ideas’ are all free to local residents and there is also a bumper trail for kids that encompasses all of the venues taking part.

A Magic Lantern Show at the American Museum offers the chance to gaze at the stars with the Herschel Museum of Astronomy who are hosting an evening Star Party. The Great Ideas invented in Bath takes are explored at the Museum of Bath at Work and they will be showing what the Romans did for us at the Roman Baths.

A walk around Combe Down village offers the chance to discover the source of Bath stone, and for younger visitors there is a spooky Halloween trail at Prior Park.

“Open Week is our own ‘museumsfest’ – an opportunity for everyone to explore and celebrate this rich inheritance,” said Head of Heritage Services Stephen Bird.

“Bath and North East Somerset has an unrivalled array of museums and heritage sites which record the history and character of the district..”

Full details of the week’s events are available in the Heritage Open Week brochure at all council sites, the library and all participating venues. Or go to Bath and North East Somerset Council website to see all the listings and view the brochure online.
