The Museums at Night competition Connect10 is back. Between now and the end of January, venues across the country are coming up with innovative Museums at Night event ideas as they bid to host one of ten contemporary artists.
This year the top artists up for grabs include former Turner Prize winner Martin Creed and controversial duo Jake and Dinos Chapman. Museums and galleries also qualify for a share of a £35,000 Arts Council fund to help put on their evening.Arts and heritage venues have until January 31 to submit their event ideas to Culture24. Once the entries have been whittled down to 40 final ideas, the final choice of which artist goes where will be decided by a public online vote via the Culture24 website.
Gavin Turk, Richard Wentworth and Rain Room creators Random International are a few of the other names entrants can pitch for.
Museums at Night visitors will have plenty to look forward to: last year a nightclub at Eastbourne’s Towner (with Bob and Roberta Smith) and live taxidermy in Liverpool (performed by Polly Morgan) were two of the highlights of the campaign.
- Get involved: If you are a museum, gallery or heritage site head to the Museums at Night blog for all the information. The deadline is January 31 2013.
- Museums at Night 2013 takes place in hundreds of museums, galleries and heritage sites across the UK during the evenings of Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 16-18.
The Connect10 competition is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
