The Connect10 contemporary artists prepare to head to a museum or gallery of your choice

We had over 20,000 votes cast for the Connect10 Museums at Night competition. Galleries, heritage sites and museums up and down the country submitted their applications and we asked the public to decide where the Connect10 contemporary artists will appear during the weekend of May 18, 19 and 20.

Working closely with the ten artists, Culture24 selected the very best ideas to go forward for the public vote.

The vote closed at 5pm on March 5 2012. The winning venues and their events will be announced on March 7 2012.

Claire Barclay, futuristic Scottish sculptor whose carefully balanced and beautiful installations have been exhibited in Tate Britain and Edinburgh's Fruitmarket Gallery. London's Old Operating Theatre and Cheltenham Art Gallery have both devised innovative events for this fascinating artist.



Bompas & Parr, the Jellymongers, create spectacular culinary experiences ranging from architectural jellies to lakes of cocktails. Brunel's SS Great Britain, Caithness Horizons and Belgrave Hall are all competing for an amazing night of anarchic, jelly-based fun.



Ryan Gander, provocative installation artist whose Artangel commission in a Hoxton warehouse provided clues for visitors to solve a mystery. Oliver Holt Gallery, Dorchester Abbey and Ipswich Museum vie to host his acclaimed and thought provoking lecture, Loose Associations X.



Jon McGregor, award-winning novelist and short story writer, author of If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things and Even The Dogs. Turner Contemporary, Discovery Point and The Polar Museum are all great settings for an atmospheric night-time reading.



Polly Morgan, contemporary taxidermist whose poignant installations have been collected by Kate Moss. Victoria Gallery, Arnos Vale Cemetery and Yorkshire Museum all go into the hat with some great event ideas for this engaging artist.



Terry O'Neill, fashion and rock photographer renowned for iconic images of Hollywood stars and bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The Museum of Soho and The Ragged School Museum both want him for an entertaining evening of anecdotes and insights.



Martin Parr, Magnum documentary photographer whose pictures tell stories of leisure, consumption and communication. The Wedgwood Museum, Haworth Art Gallery and The People's History Museum all want this acclaimed photographer for a Museums at Night evening.



Simon Roberts, landscape and documentary photographer who spent a year crossing Russia and was Official Artist of the 2010 General Election. For Museums at Night the Working Class Movement Library, Quay Arts and Guernsey Museum vie for his attentions.



Bob & Roberta Smith, sign-painter, activist and installation artist who uses text on recycled signs and floorboards. The Towner, Leeds Art Gallery and The Peace Museum have each devised great evening events - but only one can win...



Susan Stockwell, creator of beguiling installations, drawings and films commenting on globalisation and colonisation, often using recycled materials. Wolverhampton Art Gallery, The Fitzwilliam and Blackburn Museum have all devised exciting evening events for her during Museums at Night.
