Wannabe photographers can have their work displayed at the highly-respected Viewfinder Gallery in Greenwich for a night as part of Museums at Night.

The hotspot of up-and-coming snappers is giving members of the public until May 12 2009 to send in "re-photographs" of historic pictures, with the best entries shown at the workshop bash and an overall winner chosen by representatives from Greenwich Heritage Centre on the same evening.

"We're expecting a real range of images, and would love as many people to take part as possible. We expect to see a great change from some of the re-photographs, but perhaps less in others," predicted Viewfinder curator Louise Forrester, who is offering images of areas including Burney Street, Eltham High Street, a meadow-surrounded lane which is now a busy A-road and the long-forgotten Earl of Moira pub.

The workshop takes the theme of the Gallery's Painterly Photographs show, exploring the relationship between painting and photographs, and applies it to the level of artistic licence available to painters.

"We'll display both the historic paintings and the re-photographed sites, and also a photograph of contemporary Greenwich by each participant," added Forrester. "It should be really fun evening."

Open to all levels and ages, runs 6.30pm – 8.30pm. Admission free.
