Museums at Night is expected to be bigger and better than ever in 2013© Wilderspin National School
Festival organiser Culture24 is shifting the festival dates one day earlier than the usual Friday-Sunday, in response to feedback from hundreds of museums and galleries across the UK who felt strongly that kicking off on a Thursday night would make it easier for them to plan events.
Several venues commented that public transport was better on Thursday nights than Sunday nights, making it easier for visitors to get to after-hours events. Many museums and galleries already run late events and exhibition launches on Thursday evenings, which can now be rolled in to the Museums at Night programme.
“This date change should enable many more arts and heritage venues to take part in the festival,” says Nick Stockman, the Museums at Night Project Manager.
“In 2012 there were 537 fantastic events for visitors to discover, and we’re confident that in 2013 Museums at Night will continue to grow bigger and better, with many more exciting highlights.”
