British photographer Simon Roberts is an artist who has found popularity with galleries and judging panels across the world, testifying to his widescreen, bright-skied views of a planet and its people.
Roberts is best known for spending a year crossing thousands of miles (as well as 11 time zones) with the ambitious aim of providing a true glimpse of post-Soviet Russia.
The resulting Motherland series of large-scale photos was an affecting journey across a vast land rarely portrayed in such human terms.
He then turned his eye to domestic settings to act as the Official Election artist of the 2010 General Election, and explored Britain's shifting identity in We English, a series which was both epic and personal, full of the wit, warmth, faded glamour and teeming landscapes he witnessed while travelling the country in a motorhome.
He is currently completing a project to photograph every UK seaside pier. There are 68 piers in the UK, four of which are on the Isle of Wight.
