The Topsham Museum calls a late 17th century building overlooking the tranquil Exe Estuary its home, and its current major exhibition, 150 Years of the Exeter to Exmouth Railway, celebrates the history it is steeped in.
The Devon town thrived as a port with a sheltered harbour, becoming a centre for fishing and shipbuilding on a river welcoming all sorts of vessels.
The expert speakers floating in for Museums at Night know more than most about a rich history augmented by the museum’s impressive River Gallery, built shortly before it was nominated for the Art Fund Prize in 2008.
The evening also offers a chance to enjoy Topsham’s furnished period rooms, wildlife from the estuary, memorabilia relating to film star Vivien Leigh and a picturesque garden.
