Following a summer packed full of heritage events, Norwich is now looking forward to a visit from celebrity archaeologist Julian Richards. Julian has been invited by the Norfolk and Norwich Archaeological Society to give a talk open to all.

The star of TVs Meet the Ancestors and Blood of the Vikings says he is keen to help as wide an audience as possible explore Britain's fascinating past.

"I’ll be talking about Meet the Ancestors, a series that recreated the past focussing on people's everyday lives. The talk will be light-hearted and easily understandable, suitable for both historians and beginners of all ages,” Julian revealed.

“We hope to get more people involved in exploring archaeology that goes beyond artefacts in museums. The past for me is about people.”

In the popular BBC series Meet the Ancestors Julian used archaeological digs, combined with scientific and computer technology, to bring the past back to life. Viewers were transported back in time witnessing history spanning the centuries; from gruesome tales of Neolithic people buried at Stone Henge, to malaria and the fall of Rome.

"We're really exited that Julian is giving a talk in Norwich," added Sophie Cabot, of the Norfolk and Norwich Archaeological Society. "We hope that lots of people, members and non - members, of all ages will come along to see what we have to offer."

Join Julian on Friday 10 October at 7pm, at The Kings Centre, Kings Street, Norwich. Tickets (£5/ U-18s Free) are obtainable on 01493 661370 or on the door.
