Queen Street Mill Textile Museum is the last remaining operational steam powered weaving mill in the world.

The museum collections are designated as being of national importance and the boilerhouse, enginehouse and chimney have Ancient Monument status.

The 500 horsepower steam engine "Peace" runs daily when the museum is open and the weaving shed with 308 Lancashire looms, the coal fired Lancashire boiler and other working machinery are all regularly demonstrated for visitors.(Please telephone for further details).

In Touch with Textiles is an exhibition of new work to be created for 2013 by Bolton Progressive Threads. Within the group, members are interested in the history, production, the social and economic impact as well as the traditional and contemporary use of textiles. The exhibition is a diverse body of work which reflects the traditional and contemporary use of textiles, taking into account the history and production, as well as its social and economic impact.

Rosegrove to Darjeeling

Rosegrove to Darjeeling

6 July — 28 November 2013

An imaginary railway adventure seen through the medium of black and white photographs taken on actual journeys made by Stuart James from the 1960's to the 1990's. Starting from Burnley's Rosegrove engine shed – symbolic to lovers of steam locomotives as of the final bastion in Britain for using steam power, when it was phased out in 1968. The trip moves through Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria and Turkey to Nepal, Pakistan and India, with the final destination Darjeeling.

Steampunk

Steampunk Fair

1 June 2013

Join us for a Saturday of steampunk fun at the mill!

We will have an array of market stalls and exhibitions showcasing the talents of the finest steampunk artisans & crafts persons from around the country. We will also be joined by performance artist Ash Mandrake, who will be performing live throughout the day with both stage sets and as a wandering minstrel with a double necked guitar.
The fair is open from 12pm to 5pm.
