Museum and Arts Centre in the centre of St. Helens. LIVE Glass-blowing demonstrations at 12 noon, 13.45 & 15.00 hrs. daily. Two great galleries - Glass and Local History plus Victorian glass making furnace (archaeological site with film show). Three screen Film show and Mirror maze. Rotating exhibition programme through out the year. Shop, Artists Gallery and canalside Cafe and garden. Free Parking is available.

Opening hours

For visitors the Centre is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm in Summer and 10am - 4pm in Winter. We are closed all Bank Holidays.

Group bookings for evening visits are available on request.

We are closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Additional info

The World of Glass is an all year round family friendly museum, arts and visitor centre. It has been designed with special needs in mind and has easy wheelchair access to all galleries, lifts to all floors, low-mounted video displays and adapted toilet facilities.
Whilst the Cone Building Tunnels are accessible with care, an alternative 'video tour' of the tunnels is provided. Most galleries also have a hearing loop.

Heritage Open Days: The World of Glass

  • 10 September 2016 10am-4pm

Built in 2000, the award winning World of Glass details the history of St Helens and its glass-making heritage. Featuring live glass-blowing demonstrations, special effects film shows, underground tunnels, museum galleries and special temporary exhibitions, you can take a journey of discovery into how glass has changed the way we live and explore the heritage of this hugely important industrial town. During Heritage Open Days, there will be free entry for both adults & children.
