Website
The society was formed 1n 1981 when ‘the by-pass’ cut its way through the heart of the old village. Now we offer a museum containing artefacts from some of those shops that sadly met their demise more than 25 years ago.
Clearly our interest was centred on Bitterne but we cater for all areas of Southampton east of the Itchen [Bitterne Park, Harefield, Itchen, Merry Oak, Midanbury, Peartree, Sholing, Thornhill, Townhill Park, Weston and Woolston.]
Venue Type:
Museum, Association or society
Additional info
Our study area offers, to those with a specific interest in genealogy access to information not readily available elsewhere. As well as family history, it is equally of value to those with an interest in general history of the local area. Resources include hundreds of photographs, many maps and a library of local publications (many out of print) including books and local papers published by ourselves, together with some otherwise unpublished local research.
