Step back in time to 1940s wartime Britain and experience the sights and sounds of Britain's homefront. Stockport Air Raid Shelters have been carved into the natural sandstone cliffs in Stockport Town Centre. When they opened in 1939, they were the largest purpose built civilian underground air raid shelters in the country. Reopened in 1996, the Shelters have been imaginatively restored to give visitors a feel for the era.
