The Broads, one of England's unique landscapes, was formed by medieval peat diggings which became shallow lakes. Today they are a haven for both wildlife and holidaymakers, but behind the tourist industry lies a myriad of traditional ways of working and living. Situated in a range of traditional storage buildings and boat sheds, near the busy market town of Stalham it complements the picturesque staithe on which it stands and presents a vista of the dyke it surveys. It is the only museum in the UK to chronicle man's effect upon the Broadland environment.
