View of the work being made by Mir and her collaborators

Aleksandra Mir - Space Tapestry: Human Spaceflight and Earth Observation

  • 24 June — 12 November 2017 *on now

New chapters of Aleksandra Mir’s ongoing work Space Tapestry span the walls of Modern Art Oxford’s Piper gallery. The huge monochrome drawings are inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry and the artists who depicted Halley’s Comet in 1066. Much like a graphic novel, Space Tapestry tells an episodic visual story of Space travel. Mir has brought together a team of collaborators aged 18 to 24, to draw the work collectively in her studio. At Modern Art Oxford, Mir presents Space Tapestry: Earth Observation & Human Spaceflight.

The drawings contemplate the future possibilities of Space and the evolution of advanced technology — particularly satellites and human space flight — in relations to our daily lives. The works explore the balance of technological progress and humanistic objectives, expressed through the work’s layered and participatory execution.

Ulrich Schnauss

Future Perfect Presents: Ulrich Schnauss

  • 28 October 2017 8-10:30pm

“Producer, remixer and all-round genius Ulrich Schnauss makes music as big as the oceans” – NME

At once uplifting and otherworldly, the music of Ulrich Schnauss combines multi-layered synthesizers with beats and ethereal vocals, serving as an aural escape route from the trappings of reality. As Schnauss explains, ‘I’ve always used making and listening to music as a way to escape – putting on headphones is a great way to leave reality behind for a while, reminding yourself why it still makes sense to carry on.’

Ulrich is many talents rolled into one; artist, producer, mixer, remixer, gaining him wide spread support from Radio 1, Nylon Magazine, The Guardian and XFM.

The live show is a live collaboration with Nat Urazmetova, a London-based visual artist who integrates the cross-disciplinary approach and lens media in her work and forms part of the public programme for Aleksandra Mir – Space Tapestry: Earth Observation & Human Spaceflight 24 June – 12 November.
