Francesc Torres: Memory Remains: 9/11 Artefacts at Hangar 17
The empty shell of Hangar 17 at JFK Airport became a storehouse of memories when it was filled with the material cleared from the World Trade Center site, following the September 11 attacks on New York City. Marking the tenth anniversary of 9/11, photographs by Francesc Torres explore inside the hangar and reflect on the emotional power of what remained, from personal belongings to steel girders distorted by the force of the attacks.
The exhibition will also be on display at the International Centre for Photography in New York and at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona.
Memory Remains is presented in cooperation with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum and the International Center of Photography, in association with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. For further information please visit: www.iwm.org.uk

This Storm Is What We Call Progress is a significant new exhibition of work by the Israeli-born, London-based artist Ori Gersht and is being presented at IWM London in partnership with the commissioning agency Photoworks. The exhibition, opening at the start of IWM London’s Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations, is Gersht’s first major solo museum show in the UK.

War Story
Since the First World War, the Museum has collected people's stories of war and conflict, and now through a new innovative project - War Story - the first-hand experiences of British service personnel currently serving in Afghanistan, have been recorded for present and future generations.
This November the new War Story display will offer visitors a unique chance to discover the soldiers' compelling stories of their Afghanistan experience through their own eyes. It will feature soldiers eyewitness accounts from letters, emails and blogs through to footage and personal belongings. A season of events which will explore the themes and issues in the War Story display will launch in early 2012.

Crimes against humanity
A specially-commissioned 30-minute film is the central element of this exhibition which examines the theme of genocide and ethnic conflict - looking at some of the common features shared by the horrendous bloodshed in Armenia, Nazi-occupied Europe, Cambodia, East Timor, Bosnia, Rwanda and elsewhere.
The Holocaust Exhibition

Photographing Afghanistan: Crucial Exposure
In 1980 Don McCullin carried out a difficult and arduous assignment to photograph the conflict between Mujahideen insurgents and Soviet armed forces in Afghanistan. Armed with two Nikon cameras and 30 rolls of film, he hiked for miles on foot, seeking defining images of the conflict. In this he was unsuccessful.
Broadcaster and journalist Edward Stourton chairs this event in which leading photographers, including Don McCullin and Donovan Wylie, discuss the challenges faced by professional photographers working in Afghanistan during the last 30 years. In association with the Media Society.
