This coastal museum features the story of the Victorian seaside resort of Herne Bay and its surrounding area, with exciting finds from nearby Reculver Roman fort. Displays include local paintings, prints and photos, mammoth tusks and fossils from local beaches, coastal wildlife and a Barnes Wallis Bouncing Bomb prototype from World War Two.

Among display themes are seaside holidays and attractions, the town's piers, clock tower and the development of the resort. Fun hands-on activities and a family trail.

The art gallery has a programme of regularly changing temporary exhibitions featuring touring shows, local history displays and work by local artists. Events include creative workshops and special activities for schools and groups.

Introducing Mr D: Marcel Duchamp and his summer in Herne Bay

An exhibition that kicks off this year's celebrations of Marcel Duchamp's visit to Herne Bay in 1913. Who was Marcel Duchamp? Why did he come to Herne Bay? And what did he ever do for us? Come to Herne Bay Museum and Gallery and find out.

Organised by the Friends of Herne Bay Museum and Gallery, in co-operation with Duchamp in Herne Bay, and in partnership wit Canterbury Museums and Galleries.

Promoting Herne Bay

A display by Herne Bay Historical Records Society in celebration of various methods used to attract visitors to the town over nearly two centuries.

Tourism has always been important to the district, and Herne Bay was in keen competition with its neighbours, placing much emphasis on healthy aspects of the town. Ranging from the power of the written word used in various guide books through to the high-impact images utilised on posters.

This exhibition draws upon a number of diverse sources to show the wide variety of material used over the years.
