The Golden Hinde is a full scale reconstruction of the notorious 16th Century warship in which Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated the world between 1577 and 1580.
Now berthed in St. Mary Overie Dock, near Southwark cathedral, the Golden Hinde is a living history museum offering the opportunity to see what life as a 16th Century sailor would have really been like.
Take a journey back in time with a self-guided tour or take advantage of one of the overnight living history events. For schools we offer guided tours with an actor dressed in period clothing ready to transform the ship into a working 16th Century warship. During the holidays we offer workshops.

Now students can really experience Tudor maritime history. Dressed in period clothes children and adults are taken back in time by our team of professional actors playing the roles of colourful crew members. Groups participate in many shipboard tasks learning eveything from navigating the ship and firing the cannon to raising the anchor and performing surgery on the sick. A unique chance to experience the reality of Tudor maritime life.

Visit a full scale replica of Sir Francis Drake's famous 16th century warship. Take a tour with a guide in period dress lasting 1 and a half hours. Pupils are taught about life aboard a Tudor warship and in particular Drake's voyages. Groups visit the armoury to turn the capstan, the gun deck to learn how the cannon was fired and the hold where food and other provisions were kept. A hands on tour giving pupils a real chance to experience life aboard a Tudor warship.
