UCL is the first university to be established in England after Oxford and Cambridge. It was also the first to admit students regardless of class, race, gender or religion. Founded in 1826 in the heart of London's Bloomsbury, UCL today is a world class research-led university. It is home to more than 18 000 students, 30% of who come from more than 140 overseas countries.

Museum
UCL is home to four museums and eleven collections. These were gathered and developed from the 1820s to assist UCL's academic staff in their teaching and research. Today many of them are open to the public. They cover a diverse array of subjects from science and archaeology to geology, natural history and art and reflect 175 years of collecting.
