Wander the passages of this medieval fortress and discover nine centuries of bloody warfare across the Anglo-Scottish border. Learn about its role in sieges, its history of sieges and its connections with Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie. See the elaborate carvings of prisoners in a small cell, and discover the 200-year history of Cumbria's infantry regiment in The Border and King's Own Royal Border Regimental Museum.

Easter Adventure Quest

Adventurers wanted this Easter weekend. You'll meet characters from the past with stories of time gone by. These honourable folk will be happy to help you on your quest as you explore our Hadrian's Wall attractions and crack the clues. Rise to the challenge and you'll reap a chocolate reward. It's time to get hands-on with history.

Medieval St George's Weekend

  • 25 — 26 April 2015 11am-5pm

Make way for the pageant of St George. Celebrate St George's Day with combat displays and a medieval play. See the mysterious knight in his shining armour as he faces his famous foe, the dragon, in a play to entertain all the medieval citizens. Enjoy performances, plays and medieval music as you're transported back to Medieval times.

Roman Fun & Games

This half term tell the kids to leave their ipads at home. Little Roman Soldiers can take part in old fashioned Roman Fun and Games at our historic Roman attraction on Hadrian's Wall. Plus, Roman themed craft activities throughout the day

How to be a Roman Soldier

Attention! Right you 'orrible, it's training time! Become a first class soldier in May half term as Cumbria's mini soldiers are put through their paces at Carlisle Castle. Carlisle has a long military history so what better place to start your training, with kids' hands on activities.
