The Making Place is exactly as the name suggests. Visitors work with scientific or technological ideas to design and make a product to take away. The centre has several multi-purpose working spaces where both children and adults engage in a wide range of practical activities. The emphasis is on exploring scientific principles through design. A visit to The Making Place, allows children and adults to experience science through practical hands-on learning. The contents of the workshops are embedded within the National Curriculum. There is a separate programme of activities for each school year. Support is available in the form of worksheets, lesson plans and resource packs. Family events offer an informal way for adults and children to explore science together in a stimulating environment. Through a unique programme of workshops and family activities, the Making Place offers schools and the wider community a valuable resource.
