Life is an independent educational charity that aims to engage the local community with science in a fun and interactive environment. Life hosts a mix of permanent and temporary exhibitions alongside a rolling programme of science shows. Times Square cafe is on site offering a range of food and Starbucks coffee, and a the gift shop is full of scientific goodies for all the family.

In the Experiment Zone you can explore how 'proper' science is done, carry out practical experiments using professional tools and equipment and meet real-life scientists, all included in the admission price to the Centre. Learn all about your brain in Brain Zone.

Brain Zone

Your brain is the most amazing and mysterious thing about you – and something that you probably take for granted. The Brain Zone lets you understand what’s going on inside your head through exciting, fun activities and exhibits. Explore what makes you ‘you’! Scientists are discovering new things every day and you, and your amazing brain, can help improve our understanding by visiting The Brain Zone and taking part in experiments.

Brain Zone is a new, permanent addition to Life Science Centre.

Brick History - Titanic

Brick History

Life Science Centre will be home to a host of intricate historical models, all of which have been made from scratch using LEGO® bricks. This new exhibition will span the whole of human history – picking out the key highlights – to show how mankind has progressed over the years, from the pre-historic era to modern day. Visitors can marvel at over 50 LEGO models depicting the most pivotal moments in history, from the Big Bang, to the sinking of the Titanic, the Moon landing, and modern events such as President Obama’s inauguration. Seeing the Universe in all its light – an exhibition showcasing the ‘big telescopes family’

The stage set for Chuffing Contraptions

Chuffing Contraptions

Engineers fix problems (and often find new ones). Join us as we discover some of the ingenious fixes to tricky problems by making engines and other contraptions to do the work and make things go. This show has been developed by Life Science Centre and Think Physics.

Fun on the 4D Motion Ride

Pacific Rim 5-D

In a unified show of force the world’s most powerful nations have joined together and built massive robot fighting machines. In a no holds barred brawl, the last standing robot fighters take on the biggest and baddest of the monsters. Experience every twist, turn, high and low as your seat moves in time to the 3D action on screen in our 4D Motion Ride. You can expect to be blasted with wind, smoke and water, and you'll even be able to smell the action!

For safety reasons you have to be at least 1.2 metres in height to use the Motion Ride.

Warning: because of the storyline and 4D effects, young children and some adults may find this scary.

Meeting the minibeasts at pre-school day

Each session offers a mix of classic activities, such as Piccolo Music workshops, mini-beast handling and a toddler bubble disco alongside new activities, so that every event is different. Access to our Hands-on Young Explorers Zone and an under-7s planetarium show is also available during these special days.

Maker Faire UK attracts over 300 crafters, coders, makers and DIY-ers to share their creativity and enthusiasm with the public. 2017 Headliners include Andrew Smyth, a finalist in 2016’s Great British Bake Off, who will be cooking up some science-inspired bakes, and Maximus, a 9ft-tall, robot-style performer – complete with lasers, CO2 cannons and pyrotechnics. There’ll be plenty of live music and entertainment on the day too.

Wedding Fair at Life

Wedding Fair

There'll be plenty of fantastic suppliers to meet, whether you're looking for photographers, cakes, flowers, bridal and bridesmaid dresses, menswear or balloons. Life's amazing building is available for ceremonies and receptions all year round and our events team will be one of over 30 exhibitors available to meet with on the day. There’ll also be a chance to look around Life’s stunning planetarium, one of the city’s most unique wedding spaces.
