Life is an independent educational charity that aims to engage the local community with science in a fun and interactive environment. Life hosts a mix of permanent and temporary exhibitions alongside a rolling programme of science shows. Times Square cafe is on site offering a range of food and Starbucks coffee, and a the gift shop is full of scientific goodies for all the family.

The NEW exhibition Robot features over 40 robot models, cyborgs and androids - full size models, heads and toys - from TV shows and films from the past 60 years.

Hubble at 25

Celebrate the Hubble Telescope in this brand new Planetarium show. Over the last 25 years, the Hubble Space Telescope has changed the way we see our universe. From near-disaster, see some of its triumphs of science that are also amazing art. This show lasts around 20 minutes and is recommended suitable for ages 7+.

Learn all about your brain in Brain Zone.

Brain Zone

Your brain is the most amazing and mysterious thing about you – and something that you probably take for granted. The Brain Zone lets you understand what’s going on inside your head through exciting, fun activities and exhibits. Explore what makes you ‘you’! Scientists are discovering new things every day and you, and your amazing brain, can help improve our understanding by visiting The Brain Zone and taking part in experiments.

Brain Zone is a new, permanent addition to Life Science Centre.

The giraffe specimen in ANIMAL INSIDE OUT

ANIMAL INSIDE OUT: A BODY WORLDS Production

  • 28 May 2016 — 3 January 2017

From goats to giraffes, elephants to eels and octopuses to ostriches - embark on an anatomical safari exploring more than 100 real animal specimens. Marvel at the muscles supporting the neck of the 5m tall giraffe, stand face to face with an adult gorilla and discover the dense network of blood vessels in a shark. Thanks to the science of plastination, invented by Dr Gunther von Hagens, each animal has been painstakingly preserved allowing visitors to see what lies beneath nature’s skin in intricate detail. Animal Inside Out was made possible through cooperation with zoos and various university veterinary programmes. No animal was killed or harmed for this exhibition.

We might dream we can fly like birds, but it took inventors and innovators to dare to take to the skies, from parachutes to planes. Learn more about the science of flight and enjoy amazing live science demos in this high-flying show. Each show lasts around 20 mins and is recommended suitable for ages 5 and up.

Each Pre-school session offers a mix of classic activities, such as Piccolo Music workshops, mini-beast handling and a toddler bubble disco alongside new activities, so that every event is different. Access to our Hands-on Young Explorers Zone and an under-7s planetarium show is also available during these special days.

Tim Peake

Welcome Home Time Peake

We'll be celebrating all things Tim Peake and screening recorded footage of Tim’s return on giant TV screens, with demos and narration from staff. This event is part of Destination Space, a joint venture between UK Science Centres and the European Space Agency.

Friday Night Life - alternative nights out for adults

Friday Night Life is for adults who fancy something quirky and different.
Although every Friday Night Life is slightly different, you can expect a unique show in the planetarium and at least one other activity you wouldn’t get to experience anywhere else – guaranteed! This could be a workshop, a talk or show or a chance to do an experiment. Have a drink at the bar and enjoy the music. Limited capacity – early booking is advised and tickets are available now at life.org.uk. Please note – This event excludes ANIMAL INSIDE OUT.

This event is adults only (18+).
