Life is an independent educational charity that aims to engage the local community with science in a fun and interactive environment. Life hosts a mix of permanent and temporary exhibitions alongside a rolling programme of science shows. Times Square cafe is on site offering a range of food and Starbucks coffee, and a the gift shop is full of scientific goodies for all the family.

Super Cells explores the controversial subject of stem cells and stem cell research. Find out more about how stem cells live, what they are, how they work and discover the diseases they could potentially be used to cure.

Life is the only UK venue to host this exhibition, brought from The Canadian Stem Cell Network and the Museum of Nature and Science, in partnership with the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine, the Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine, the Catapult Centre and the New York Stem Cell Foundation brought to the UK by the UK Stem Cell Catapult

Game On 2.0

This major international exhibition is coming to Newcastle’s Life Science Centre in May 2015.

Explore the vibrant history, culture and future of gaming entertainment and technology through more than 100 playable games. Retro lovers can play on consoles from the 1970s and there’s a dedicated arcade games section, including Pac-Man, Defender and Donkey Kong. Your gaming journey takes you through the decades up to contemporary favourites, including Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 with games such as Halo 3, Wii Sports Resort and Rock Band.

Game On 2.0 takes an in-depth look at the people and technologies that have revolutionized games and how we play them. See the design process from concept to packaging for some of the most important games of recent times: Donkey Kong, Pokémon, Spore, Uncharted, World of Warcraft, Tomb Raider and The Sims.

The exhibition gives a global take on video games, the highlights include an exploration of the influence of manga and anime on computer games; films that have been influenced by and influenced computer games; online gaming, music composed for games and new games technologies.

Please note: food and drinks are not allowed in the exhibition.

Fasten your seat belt for a high speed race through villages, tunnels, forests and rocky mountain roads! The 4D Motion Ride is one of Life’s most popular attractions; visitors can expect plenty of crash bang and wallop! Experience every twist, turn, high and low as your seat moves in time to the 3D action on screen. You can expect to be blasted with wind, smoke and water, and you'll even be able to smell the action! Retro Race runs at various times throughout the day.

For safety reasons you have to be at least 1.2 metres in height to use the Motion Ride.

Easter Holidays at Life

Whether you carry out experiments with real scientists in the Experiment Zone, take a spin on the 4D Motion Ride* or simply explore, Life has something for the whole family during the Easter break. All of this is included in the price of admission to the Science Centre. A particular highlight comes from the popular 'Chocolate Heaven' workshops, which will be running from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

Please Note - You must be a minimum of 1.2 metres tall to ride the Motion Ride. Don't worry if you're smaller, there is still plenty to do! Just as a Science Explainer.

Maker Faire is a two-day celebration of science, technology, performance and craft that brings together makers of all kinds.
