Life is an independent educational charity that aims to engage the local community with science in a fun and interactive environment. Life hosts a mix of permanent and temporary exhibitions alongside a rolling programme of science shows. Times Square cafe is on site offering a range of food and Starbucks coffee, and a the gift shop is full of scientific goodies for all the family.

Test and play in the Experiment Zone

Experiment Zone

In the Experiment Zone you can explore how 'proper' science is done, carry out practical experiments using professional tools and equipment and meet real-life scientists, all included in the admission price to the Centre. Work alone or enlist the help of one of Life's friendly Science Explainers - it is up to you!

Learn all about your brain in Brain Zone.

Brain Zone

Your brain is the most amazing and mysterious thing about you – and something that you probably take for granted. The Brain Zone lets you understand what’s going on inside your head through exciting, fun activities and exhibits. Explore what makes you ‘you’! Scientists are discovering new things every day and you, and your amazing brain, can help improve our understanding by visiting The Brain Zone and taking part in experiments.

Brain Zone is a new, permanent addition to Life Science Centre.

The elephant specimen in ANIMAL INSIDE OUT

ANIMAL INSIDE OUT: A BODY WORLDS Production

  • 28 May 2016 — 3 January 2017 *on now

From goats to giraffes, elephants to eels and octopuses to ostriches - embark on an anatomical safari exploring more than 100 real animal specimens. Marvel at the muscles supporting the neck of the 5m tall giraffe and stand face to face with an adult gorilla. Thanks to the science of plastination, invented by Dr Gunther von Hagens, each animal has been painstakingly preserved allowing visitors to see what lies beneath nature’s skin in intricate detail.

Animal Inside Out was made possible through cooperation with zoos and various university veterinary programmes. No animal was killed or harmed for this exhibition.

Mind Magic: Richard Wiseman at Life

Magicians appear to make solid objects vanish into thin air, defy the laws of gravity and predict the future, Prof Wiseman invites you to step backstage and discover the secret science of sorcery. Science Selfies at Friday Night Life

Each Friday Night Life is slightly different, but there will always be an exclusive show in the planetarium, as well as something you can’t do anywhere else. September’s event sees award-winning science communicator James Piercy share his experience of traumatic head injury and there’ll be a special planetarium version of Holst’s Planet Suite – a UK first! Grab a drink at the bar, dance to the DJ and get ready to explore.

Ugly Animals Roadshow

Ugly Animals Roadshow

The Ugly Animal Preservation Society is dedicated to raising the profile of the world’s most aesthetically challenged endangered species. Hosted by TV presenter and science comedian Simon Watt (from Channel 4′s Inside Nature’s Giants), this family friendly performance celebrates and explores the incredible biology of the animal kingdom’s most monstrous creatures. The show features videos, demonstrations and lots and lots of audience participation.

Recommended suitable for ages 7+. Spaces are limited, so make sure you get there early to grab your seat!

On Channel 4′s Inside Nature’s Giants, scientists dissected some massive animals to get under their skin and figure out what made them tick. Join presenter Simon Watt as we look at some of the fascinating science that didn’t make the final cut.

Bird Wing Fascinator

Bird Wing Fascinator Workshop

These workshops provide an ideal introduction to the craft of taxidermy in which you will be taught all the basic skills - from skinning and preparing to mounting and preserving.
