CyMAL: Museums Archives and Libraries Wales (CyMAL) was established on 1 April 2004 as a new policy division of the Welsh Government, located in new premises in Aberystwyth with 25 members of staff, mostly specialists.
The new division represents a significant investment by the Welsh Government in the development of local museums, archives and libraries services which meet 21st century needs. Building on the strategic agenda outlined in "Wales: A Better Country", CyMAL will develop policies which support innovative bilingual services, engaging with new audiences.
