Where can you launch a rocket, sink an oil rig, move half a ton of granite and study a colony of ants…all in one day? Techniquest, the hands-on science centre in Cardiff Bay.
The educational charity has well over 120 interactive exhibits on its main exhibition floor from a hot air balloon, and hydrogen rocket, down to chunky puzzles which challenge you to solve them.
There’s also a Science Theatre – which stages curriculum linked shows for schools during term time…and shows for all the family at weekends and in the holidays.

Techniquest also has a Planetarium, which means that you can gaze at the night sky – whatever the time of day, or weather.

Toddler Day - Around the World

Once a month, during term time, pre-school children take priority on Techniquest's exhibition floor. There are additional activities, including storytime, colouring and craft tables, all aimed at encouraging young children to take their first steps in science.

May's theme is "Around the World".

The bright colours on the exhibition floor appeal to young children, who are encouraged to explore. Techniquest is buggy-friendly, with nappy-changing facilities, lockers, and a café that is happy to heat baby food and milk.

Techniquest's location – in the redeveloped Cardiff Bay – is ideal for a complete range of learning opportunities in science, geography, history, and more. Techniquest provides education programmes appropriate to schoolchildren of all ages, from Foundation Phase to A-level.
Every visiting school group can see a show or presentation in the Science Theatre or Planetarium, or take part in a workshop in the Laboratory (subject to availability). The exhibition has over 120 interactive exhibits that cover all aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Please allow 2 ½ hours for your visit.

Techniquest in Cardiff invites parents to bring their little ones to this special day specifically designed both for parents and toddlers. For just £4.60 per adult (toddlers are admitted free of charge) parents can enjoy a free cup of tea or coffee in our café. Special activities for toddlers include storytelling and Make and Take activities on the exhibition floor. Techniquest is buggy-friendly, with nappy-changing facilities, lockers and a café that can heat baby food and milk.

How to obtain

An adult's entrance to Toddler Days cost £4.60 and toddlers are free. Friends of Techniquest are admitted free of charge. Groups of 10 or more should book in advance by calling 02920 475476.
