Ffotogallery

This will be the first solo exhibition in the UK by one of Portugal’s most celebrated contemporary artists, whose work combines video, photography, sound and installation to explore issues of time and memory. Blaufuks focuses on what we remember and what we forget, occupying the territory between public and private memory, recollection and oblivion. Objects become a cue for something else, for some emotional relationship, for some reminiscence that is valued but remains inviolate, untouched. The exhibition will draw on Blaufuks’ body of work from the last ten years, including his project Terezin, published by Steidl in 2010.

Co-curated by Filipa Oliveira and David Drake, the exhibition will be accompanied by the launch of a new Ffotogallery publication Works on Memory. Project supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

The Wunderkammer, or Wonder Chamber, is related to and at times synonymous with the Kunstkammer (art chamber) and Cabinet of Curiosity. Wonder Chamber encapsulates the interdisciplinary nature of Ingham’s practice which embraces natural history, medical science, art history, museology, theatrical spectacle and lens-based media (the notion of the chamber, or camera, to quote the Latin origins, being inscribed in photography through the camera obscura, or ‘darkened room’). In particular, Ingham is concerned with notions of layering and concealing and revealing dichotomous states through optical science and illusion. Wonder Chamber and its accompanying publication, acts as an imaginary museum bringing together many of the key works Ingham has been developing over the past few years. Ffotogallery's Book Arts Fayre returns for its next outing this coming February.

Ffotogallery’s next Book Arts Fayre will be taking place this coming Spring. As usual we are taking over Turner House from 11am – 5pm, all our stall spaces are FREE of charge and yes, the Various Artists stall will be back.

If you would like to apply for one of our free stall spaces or submit works for sale on our Various Artists Stall, please email the team on turnerhouse@ffotogallery.org a brief description and any images or links about your practice, imprint, zines or self publishing initiative by 17 December 2011.

The VA Stall is a curated stall of works for sale by artists/makers who cannot get to the event – Ffotogallery do not take any commission from sales, all we ask is that you cover return postage for any unsold items.
