Painting With Light: Video Sculptures
- Until 10 December 2014 *on now
- From 6 December 2014
Alex May’s practice artistically explores the boundary between physical and digital by making works that fuse sculpture and digital video projection to create immersive and experiential narrative experiences themed around how we perceive ourselves and the world around us through digital technology.
May is the creator of “Painting With Light” a digital video mapping software, which allows, for the first time, the ability to ‘paint’ with digital video footage in real-time via a data projector onto physical sculptures. For this exhibition May will create a new installation stemming from a participatory workshop with artists. The aim is to push the boundaries of this innovative medium and create new forms of expression.
May has performed with “Painting with Light” at Tate Modern and Watermans, and exhibited internationally including at the V&A, Science Museum, Bletchley Park, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Caracas, The Science Gallery in Dublin, and The Grande Halle de la Villette in Paris. He is a Visiting Research Fellow: Artist in Residence in The Department of Computer Science at The University of Hertfordshire and a sessional lecturer on the Digital Media Arts MA at University of Brighton.
The exhibition and project is funded by Arts Council England and supported by The University of Hertfordshire.
