The final round of grant applications for the Big Lottery sponsored Their Past Your Future (TPYF) initiative has begun and a new website to promote the scheme launched.

TPYF explores the ongoing legacy of 20th and 21st century conflict on people and places. The grants are designed to inspire inter-generational activities between younger and older people under the themes of remembrance and commemoration; identity; reconciliation; citizenship; diversity; asylum; conflict resolution and peacekeeping.

Grants between £500 and £10,000 are available for museums, libraries and archives to develop workshops, programmes, exhibitions and events.

The project, which was initially launched in 2004 to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of D-Day during World War Two, is now in its second phase. Museums, libraries and archives have so far responded with a broad range of schemes that explore everything from intergenerational learning to the rehabilitation of young offenders.

The new website features news stories, downloadable resources, events and useful information about TPYF2.

"The first two years of the project has helped facilitate a host of creative projects throughout the country,” said Eve Pattinson, MLA’s administrator of the scheme.

“We are looking forward to a final round of applications that will encourage museums, libraries and archives to use their collections to explore innovative ways of increasing young people’s knowledge and understanding of the impact and contemporary significance of war and conflict.”

TPYF has been working in partnership with Culture24 to promote phase two of the project and a series of news, features and TPYF related listings have already been published on their website, www.24hourmuseum.org.uk.

Now a new website has been launched by Culture24 that uses an existing template developed for another project. www.culture24.org.uk/tpyf features more news stories, downloadable resources, events and useful information about the second phase of TPYF.

"It's been great to be able to build a website for Their Past Your Future at no additional cost to the project," said Culture24 Director Jane Finnis. "By using an existing site we have already developed with the Subject Specialist Networks we can put all of our resources into editorial support and keep the technical cost on this project to zero."

The new website is designed to help people find out more about the scheme and to discover a wealth of resources, news and downloads - more of which will be added in the coming days and weeks.

The deadline for applications for the Year Three grants of TPYF2 is January 16 2009. To apply and for further information visit www.culture24.org.uk/tpyf or call Eve Pattinson, MLA TPYF2 Programme Manager on 0778 0725615 or email eve.pattinson@mla.gov.uk
