Imperial War Museum Ministry of Food Blog

Food shortages during the Second World War forced Britain to adopt a rationing system - and forced its citizens to become both more frugal, and more inventive in the kitchen. The Ministry of Food, an exhibition at the Imperial War Museum, examines this era and the clever ways that Britons managed to keep hunger at bay with what little they had. This exhibition blog provides articles, photographs and videos explaining different aspects of the rationing system: from pictures of the dishes that would have been eaten (which are reportedly not as unsavoury as you might imagine), to historical facts and even gardening advice from the rationing era that is still relevant today.
