A new project by Historic Scotland and Scottish Canals will evaluate 80 buildings along Scotland’s canals to see if they merit listed status.
Scotland’s network of canals stretches for 137 miles from coast to coast and attracts millions of visitors each year.

The project will also review around 40 existing listed buildings owned by Scottish Canals, including the Bona Lighthouse at Loch Ness and the Union Inn on the Union Canal in Falkirk.
As well as potentially providing the historic buildings with protection, the review will help to shape Scottish Canals’ heritage strategy for the next 25 years.
The results of the project will be announced next year.
