War Art in The National Archives on Wikimedia Commons

At the time of writing (June 2012) this project between the National Archives and Wikimedia UK has the ultimate aim of digitising the Archives' entire 2,000-strong collection of artworks relating to World War Two. If the opening gambit of 350 posters, portraits and rarely seen paintings by the likes of Dame Laura Knight and Terence Cuneo is anything to go by it's going to be a really valuable resource.

The National Archives are also hoping the Wikimedia community will shed some light on the lesser known artists in the collection. A bold and welcome move.
