Event: Armed Forces Day 2010, various venues, Cardiff and nationally, June 26 2010
Organised by the Ministry of Defence, Cardiff hosts the second annual homage to Armed Forces and their families this weekend, honouring servicemen and women in a show of support for personnel across the world.
Spearheading more than 350 events taking place across the UK, the national centrepiece in the Welsh capital begins with displays in Cardiff Bay before a parade through the city centre from Cardiff Castle and a range of entertainments and performances. The Red Arrows provide a dramatic finale to the day.
Lord Mayor Brian Griffiths said Cardiff’s selection as host city was "an honour and a privilege" and would result in "a day to remember".
"Hosting the event gives Cardiff and the whole of Wales the opportunity to pledge our support to the brave men and women who not only served our country in the past but continue to do so today," he added.
"It's fantastic to be given the opportunity to host the national event and our aim is to have an Armed Forces Day to be proud of."
