It might be surprising to hear that Daljit Nagra didn't get round to writing his first poem until he was 21 and that he threw it into the bin shortly after. In this film made by Faber for Culture24 and National Poetry Day 2010, the author of the acclaimed debut Look We Have Coming To Dover explains how after encountering the poetry of William Blake he graduated from writing song lyrics to writing poems.

He also describes the great “whoosh of inspiration” and shares his tips for budding poets, which include reading lots of poets, writing all the time and showing your work to other people - and being strong enough to take criticism.
