Event preview: Return of the Garrison, National Space Centre, Leicester, September 21-22 2013
Despite being one of the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi, Barbara O’Laughlin has never attended one of the many events regularly held to remember the original Star Wars epic.
On the 30th anniversary of the film, the actress will put that right – along with the rest of the cast of Ewoks, Darth Vader, a legion of Stormtroopers, Bounty Hunters, Jedi and Droids and a full-sized version of the Landspeeder craft used by Luke Skywalker on his trip to meet Obi Wan Kenobi.
“Star Wars is the one movie franchise that bridges generations and is enjoyed by fans and families of all ages,” says Malika Andress, looking ahead to the visit by more than 100 costumed characters to the National Space Centre in Leicester.
“It has been created to not be a traditional convention, but something our visitors can participate in and share their love of the galaxy far, far away on their own doorstep.”
Those celebrations are helped by a full exhibition of props, costumes, prosthetics, Lightsabers and similarly potent weapons, accompanied by a Droid Hunt and blaster practice, competitions, markets and Jedi training. All the proceeds will go to charity.
- Runs 10am-5pm. Visit the event online for full line-up and details.
