Shakespeare Birthplace Trust

Website of the week this week is The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust - full of information for anyone interested in the life of the great dramatist. The Trust was founded in 1847 when the birthplace was purchased, with the aim of preserving the site as an ancient monument.According to Dr Susan Brock of the Trust the website is due for a redesign soon, but there is a lot of extremely useful content which still makes for good reading. "We want to provide definitive and reliable information," said Dr Brock. If you visit the website and decide to make a visit to the area, you'll be glad to know that from the first weekend in April Mary Arden's house is re-opening after foot and mouth disease restrictions were lifted.Picture above:'Shakespeare' by Gerard Soest, c. 1650-60.
