Eden Camp

Experience life as a prisoner of war in Yorkshire! The camp buildings were put up in 1942 to house first Italian and later German prisoners captured in North Africa. Now they house reconstructed scenes from the social history of the Second World War.If you go to the site map you can see the entire camp as a series of numbered huts. Click on each of these for an illustrated tour of the exhibits inside. The huts include a group designated as the Museum Within a Museum which tell the story of the progress of the war. There is an Eden Camp Quiz which invites you to guess the amounts of the weekly food rations and enter a draw for free museum entry. The museum has excellent facilities for children and the Education section includes detailed information for teachers and describes the available resource packs. The Resources section describes all the educational material that can be purchased on site. For transport buffs, there is a special section on wartime vehicles.
