Parliament Week is offering schools an exclusive event inside Portsmouth's famous Historic Dockyard© Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
A Question Time-style debate will star Gerald Vernon-Jackson, the Leader of Portsmouth City Council, and Penny Mordaunt, the MP for Portsmouth North. Mark Waldron, the Editor of local newspaper The News, will also face a packed auditorium of 250 youngsters as part of Parliament Week, the annual campaign run by the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
Schools can book seats or join in via Skype. “Events like this allow students to interact with the people they learn about in school and see on television,” says Phil Wright, of the Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust.
“It brings politics to life and creates an active engagement with the issues. Engaging young people in politics and the political process is essential.”
