Based in Britain’s oldest complete church from the period – the 15th century church of St Peter Hungate – the host venue for this masterclass of Medieval craftsmanship adds to the hallowed aura.

Photographs and key paintings have been borrowed from churches across Norfolk for an exploration of religious expression in the era before literacy became widespread, when rood screens (partitions in churches) proved inspirational for parish communities, who would commission them from painters and carpenters.

More than half a millennium later, a modern photographer and carpenter have collaborated on a full-scale version of one of them which will be included in this show. And a drop-in artists’ workshop, on August 10, will also allow children to make shadow puppets and learn more about the screens and the history surrounding them.
