A brand new Discovery Channel series fronted by actor Jim Carter called Home Front Britain starts on Friday and Imperial War Museum Duxford will be playing a starring role.

The series tells the story of the Second World War on the Home Front through a rare collection of Ministry of Information wartime films.

Duxford, which is home to a number of Second World War icons including the Spitfire, Lancaster Bomber, V1 Bomb, B-17 Flying Fortress and the recreated wartime operations room, provided an ideal backdrop for the contemporary sections of the programme.

The main methods of communicating with the public during the Second World War were through the radio and cinema newsreels. The Ministry of Information employed the cream of Britain’s filmmakers, actors and writers – including JB Priestly, E M Forster, Laurence Olivier, and John Mills – to produce these essential propaganda messages.

The Discovery Channel series will run for six weeks from Friday September 11 at 10pm.
